Match Report

Match report Eltham CC Vs Cudham Wyse CC

A cancellation from Natwest (clearly concerned about the possibility of meeting with Del's pants again) saw Pete Fisher beavering away to get a late substitute. Cudham Wyse, a medium-weak team from Kent, filled the breach - well done Pete!

Gary Bill takes up the story of the game...

After the nightmre of churchleigh pulling out the week before leaving us high and dry without a fixture a nice fixtures against our old friends from natwest was being looked forward to by the remained or the squad who were not topping up their tan's in continents around the world. Then thur's morning a phone call from roy and natwest call off, here we go again, poor pete fisher is again on the search for a fixture surely not everybody is running scared of the mighty eltham?? Fortunely cudham wyse cc from biggin hill took up the challenge so we had a game on! It was an early meet at FRC to give the returning will a rew balls in the nets also making his first apperence of the season was ian cressy. In overcast conditions pete lost the toss and we were put in the field in a time game. After seeing thier pakistan counterparts destroyed in similar conditions the day before the ball was thrown to Tan and Khurram to do the same to the cudham top order. Unfortuneally this was not the case and neither could really find thier straps and gave Asjad a torried time behind the stumps which lead to a number of wide's and bye's and gave cudham a steady start. The openers looked comfy at the crease and were not offering any chance of an early breakthrough and keep the scoreboard ticking, Khurram was replaced by ray who bowled a good line and made asjad's life a lot better, tan then managed to get a half chance to henry at second slip that despite his dive to his right he could not hold on to one handed. With the skipper unable to bowl due to an elbow injury he took the brave move of turning to spin and that of gary who after his last bowling performence ( see merlins 11 fixture) was a very brave move. Ray after an eight over spell which only yelded 20 runs was replaced by derek, The spin twin's were bowling well in tandem and slowed cudham down after they had pasted 100. It was then who managed to snell both opener's in quiok sucssion the first a catch by will the second a stumping by asjad. Ian cressy then came on to replace gary who managed to half his figure's from his prevouis game. Ian was on the money straight away and his steady line and length brought him a spell of 3/40 and with tan picking up a couple of late wickets also eltham manaaged to keep cudham down to 200/7 a score confident of chasing down. At tea the heavens opened so this gave a bit of time to get excited about millwall going 2 up then 3 up in there first game of season. When the rain cleaered up Asjad and Will set about the chase in posative style and gave us one of our best start's this season, the partnership ended when Will went for a well played 40 he was thrn followed by john fisher for 5, going in to the final 20 overs eltham needed around 90 to win with the skipper looking to grt it done quickly with some big hit's. Asjad passed 50 but then with about 20 needed first pete (48) then asjad (65) fell, with only 4 overs left or so khurram was sent out and duely saw us home with henry to a 6 wicket win. a great fixture with a great oppo was enjoyed in the bar after by both teams.
