Match Report

Match report Eltham CC Vs Carlton Sports CC

Gary Bill popped the following through our letterbox...

On a sunny sun afternoon the Eltham team arrived at Fortress Footscray looking for some bouncebackabity from the week before. Four or five of the Eltham team arrived early for a net which was arranged by the Coach, but unfortunately the Coach spent most of his net time as a parking attendant telling cars to move as many wanted to park next to the nets! (He does seem to spend a lot of his time in car parks! - Ed)

Pete was back as skipper for today's game and continued his run of winning the toss and put Carlton Sports into bat. The Eltham team were looking sharp in the field backing up the new ball pairing of Ricky and Pad, who was making his Eltham debut, and both were bang on the money with their line and length.

With Ricky and Pad keeping it tight it was not long before Ricky got the breakthrough and the first wicket of the season with Matt Bulpitt taking the catch at mid wicket. Pad was bowling really well from the other end and it was not long before he took his 1st and 2nd Eltham wickets with yorkers which knocked back the timbers. A good find!

Ricky took his 2nd wicket by bowling McCulloch. It was at this time the skipper turned to his spin twins of Gary and Derek (Surely not identical? - Ed). Both started well with only a wide stopping Gary starting with a hat trick of maidens.

With the twins still keeping it tight Gary struck with the last ball of his 4th over with Pad taking a nice simple catch close in, then with Derek's first ball of the next over Pad was in the action again this time taking a super catch diving forward to remove the dangerous Nye for 28. Gary, with the first ball of his next over, got one to rip and bowled Brown and put himself on a hat-trick, but sadly the hat-trick ball was kept out. However, not one to be disheartened by such things, the very next ball saw Gary getting his 3rd wicket, bowling Martin. Colin replaced Derek and his golden arm took one ball to end the innings and give Andy his 100th Eltham catch. A great all round effort in the field meant a run chase of 74 to win.

Tea was taken and then Asjad and Peter Fisher opened up. Asjad went early but Matt and Pete steadied the nerves by scoring freely before Matt was caught at deep mid wicket for 20. A quick 16 from Colin and Pete's 27 saw us over the line to an 8 wicket win and our first win of 2011. Also, a nice early visit to the bar :-)
