Match Report

Match report Eltham CC Vs Crofton CC

So Eltham head off to (hopefully) sunny Dorset on the back of a thumping victory against an under strength Crofton CC.

Initial fears about a potentially weak batting line up were soon dispelled when Crofton arrived at the ground late and with only nine players (two of which looked like they played for an under 12???s side).

By this point the toss had been won and Eltham had chosen to field first. Tan and Ricky opened the bowling and it was soon clear to see that the pitch had somewhat more bounce in it than had been evident the previous week.

A few balls were however still keeping low however and Tan was soon the recipient of his first wicket of the season when he bowled the opener Armstrong off a ball that kept a bit low and was chopped onto his stumps. The following over he had his second wicket with another good delivery that left the stumps in pieces.

Ricky then joined in on the act with his first two wickets of the season, the first a ball that swung back in and shot along about six inches above the ground to rattle the stumps, and the second a great delivery that pitched a foot or so outside off and cut back in to take the top of middle and leg.

Crofton were reeling at 23-4 and Eltham then brought on Al and Greg to take over bowling duties on the blistering hot day. Both were soon among the wickets with some good spin bowling before John Fisher and Colin wrapped up the innings for 78, but not before some lusty blows from Clemming had given the Crofton score some semblance of respectability.

Following a quick change around a bright start to the innings from Asjad and Matt Rosenthal before both were bowled by the pacey but somewhat erratic bowling of the Crofton opening bowler Ramdath.

Pad and John Fisher then saw the innings through to a finish, despite a couple of close LBW shouts, with Pad finishing things with a six straight down the ground.

A comfortable 8 wicket victory against an under strength team was a good way to bring in a first victory of the season, but stronger tests are to come against a Sway team looking for revenge after defeats in the last couple of years and the home friendly pitch at Ashurst.

Onwards and upwards!
