Match Report

Match report Eltham CC Vs Petts Wood CC

A nice friendly fixture against our old friends at Petts Wood. Notable points from this game:

  • One opposition umpire took to the field wearing a tweed jacket and addressed the batsman as "old boy" when giving him his guard. This greatly impressed The Chairman who has suggested that two tweed jackets be purchased for the kit bag immediately for use while umpiring.
  • Controlled bowling restricted Petts Wood to 134 from their 35 overs - but the feeling was it could still take some getting on a very green, tufty pitch
  • Wickets for George Boylan, Tobes and Colin, and a good catch at slip from Pete Swain
  • Bulpitt moves ahead in the SixHitters league and lays down a marker for Swain
  • Swain ignores the marker and instead composes a fine, cultured innings of 48 to steer Eltham to victory
  • He also, remarkably, joins Andrew Young in an unbeaten partnership of 55, in which Andrew faced 36 balls without scoring. Great banter amongst the crowd but ultimately Andrew had the last laugh as he carried his bat for the win
  • Special mention to the oppo's Howell who took a couple of great running catches in the deep, and almost got a third
  • Early contender for Tea of the Year with two lovely cakes provided by Mrs Hanington, Toby's mum
  • Signs of Bulpitt's "I do the nicknames around here, guv" mantle slipping as he misses "Two Veg" for the oppo's Meeton, much to the delight of Andy Redman, who did not.
