Match Report

Match report Eltham CC Vs Cudham Wyse CC

There was not much in the way of cloud cover and the last of the summer sun was beaming, this was going to be a warm summer day considering summer is almost over, The captains go out to the middle for the toss. There is mention that the wicket is more central today an more difficult to get any sixes, this was only really discussed by the swains. Big dog says maybe I wont close gap on you today, followed by the puppy saying maybe I will go ahead today. Oh those are balls you have there Elliot but crack on. Pad wins the toss and chose to field first. The opening pair of Callum and Marky Mark. They start off fairly well, there is a roar, not on the field but in the air, there is a Spitfire circling the field.

This is one hell of a plane with a roar from its 12 cylinder engine that would get any petrol head thinking "whoa that is a sexy aeroplane with some vavavoom under the bonnet". Callum is pulled off after 3 overs. Not sure why but that was the call from the skipper. Clinton called upon for the first change, he does well but does not get any wickets. Daniel fires one in, the batsman takes it on and goes high into the sky, this was easy pickings for the man with the gloves. First wicket down. It wasn't long before Daniel had his second wicket caught by Elliot at slip. Some great bowling so far. The next wicket was a run out by George.

Pad to take ball in hand, the batsman hit it straight up in the air to long on, where Marky Mark let out the loudest, MARKS, he had too much time to think about it and drops the ball, the non striker went for a run, both batsmen were at the strikers end and a stroll over by George who was on hand to pick up the pieces, to knock off the bails. It was becoming a muggy afternoon, uncomfortable to field in, none the less Eltham did a fine job. Their batsman retires on 101. The innings ends with the opposition massing a total of 168 runs. Its tea.

Eltham start with Greg and swainy, Greg is bowled for 2. Elliot in next and with a mere 168 to get, I say mere, its not the 300 odd we were chasing in the previous game. The talk on the side line was, do you prefer the toilet paper roll down the front or the back when on the toilet roll holder, there was a consensus that most people preferred it to be on the front with an anti clockwise roll. This led us to whether you would be a folder or a scruntcher, we didn't really take to much notice of the cricket as it was all a bit shit.

With the swains at the crease we should amass a good total with their competitiveness to out do each other. Elliott was out for a massive donut. In stepped George, who has been pretty handy with the bat this season. He starts his innings off with a boundary. This is turning into a great watch as George is playing some gorgeous cricket shots and adding some valuable runs to the Eltham innings.

Swainy is caught by a fumble that is parried up into the air and caught on the second attempt on 48, jug avoidance there.

In comes Daniel and he is soon walking back with just 5 runs to his name, in steps Pad. he is gone for a duck. What was looking like an easy win has turned into watching the run rate, and hoping to stay above it. In comes Colin, the rate started to creep up but was still doable. If George picks up the runs we can win this game. George is bowled on 58, great knock Georgie boy, we could have done with you staying in as he was stroking the ball around, it was a hot and muggy day, so understandable to lose some concentration.

Admiral to step in, on the way in was told we need 8 an over, great. not long in and Colin is out. This was now down to the bowlers to try and get us over the line. the taiienders did their part but not good enough, Calum and Clinton end with not outs but would have preferred to get some more runs and win the game.

Eltham are 9 runs short after the final ball is bowled.

Over and out The admiral.
